What you need to know about the Sierra Negra Volcano

  • Active shield volcano, located at the southern tip of Isabela Island, with an altitude of 1124m and forming part of the six volcanoes on the island

  • It has the largest caldera in the Galapagos (about 7x9km and about 100m deep), making it the deepest in the archipelago and the second deepest in the world.

  • It has frequent eruptions, with the most recent ones in 2005 and June 2018, still visible in young lava fields and coastal fumaroles.

  • The tour complements the visit with the summit of Volcano Chico, visible from the edge of the caldera.

Here are some tips to deal with motion sickness:

  • Avoid fatty and heavy foods before and during your trip. Opt for lighter meals.
  • ☕ Avoid alcohol and caffeine, as they can worsen symptoms.
  • Avoid reading or using screens during the commute, as they increase nausea.
  • Get plenty of rest, as fatigue can make dizziness worse.
  • If possible, take motion sickness medication before your trip. There are several over-the-counter options that can help.
