It is the oldest inhabited island in the archipelago, 4–4.5 million years old and of geological origin due to tectonic uplift.
It is located in the extreme south and is the only nesting site for Galapagos albatrosses (approx. 12,000 pairs between April and December).
It has two main attractions: Punta Suárez, with impressive cliffs, seabirds, and a natural geyser; and Gardner Bay, a white-sand beach famous for its sea lions.
