Located on the western flank of the Sierra Negra volcano – the largest caldera in the Galapagos (10x9km) – at about 800m above sea level, accessible via the “El Cura” trail
It is a system of active fumaroles, where crystallized sulfur creates surreal landscapes of yellow tones and constant geothermal vapors.
A 6km round trip hike, with gentle descents, leads to the interior of the volcano, demonstrating the living geology of the archipelago.

The Sierra Negra caldera is the largest of its kind in the Galapagos and one of the most active, with recent eruptions (2018).
Sulfur deposits come from the cooling of volcanic gases; yellow colors indicate high geothermal activity.
The 3–3.5km descent allows you to explore fumaroles and sulfur fields, connecting directly with the volcanic heart.
